Shiruba Tree

Since 2009

Shiruba Tree is the creation of Kris Rogers. Whilst working as a joiner and developing skills in woodwork, I became intrigued by the art and craftsmanship in forming precious metals. Today, I continue to work as a craftsman refining and perfecting metal and wood rings.

Design + Inspiration

I believe in a simple approach. The current collections of wood and metal rings have been created though continuously stripping back the designs to their purest form. The process in which I work has been greatly inspired by Danish furniture design, in particular Hans J. Wegner’s design philosophy to the chair.

"Many foreigners have asked me how we made the Danish style. And I've answered that it...was rather a continuous process of purification, and for me of simplification, to cut down to the simplest possible elements of four legs, a seat and combined top rail and arm rest."  Hans J. Wegner, Just One Good Chair

100% Handmade

From a very young age I preferred tools to toys. Being lead by a curiosity into the understanding of hand-tools, I developed a fluent dexterity with a variety of different tools. I found an inherent comfort and pride that comes from the hand making process.

Workshop

The workshop is set in rural south east England, where collections and commissions are crafted to customer specifications in a wide range of woods and metals, in which beauty is achieved through making each piece one at a time.
